Super Bowl Chili Bar

Feb 4, 2010 Author: admin | Filed under: Barbeques/Chili Cook Off, Food and Drink, Sports

If you are still deciding what to serve for the Super Bowl make it easy and delicious and have a Super Bowl Chili Bar.  Chili is an All- American crowd pleaser so set up a buffet table full of chili and everything to go with it.  There are endless ways to prepare chili, and you can even make it up as you go, but the trick is in cooking it long enough to bring out the flavors.  This is great because you can cook it a day in advance or you can put it in a slow cooker in the morning so it is ready just in time for the game.

If you have a variety of fans coming to the party, spice it up by serving a Colts beef chili (this even uses blue food coloring) and a Saints Chicken Chili.

Set up the buffet with different condiments:

  • Cheeses
  • Chips and Crackers
  • Cornbread Squares
  • Sour Cream
  • Onions
  • Jalapenos
  • Corn
  • Tomatoes
  • Hot Sauce

Of course, you should have a variety of drinks to serve and the guys usually love the beer!  If you want to change things up a little try the Linebacker Limeade.

Ingredients:

  • Six 12-ounce bottles light-flavored beer, such as Corona
  • One 12-ounce can frozen limeade concentrate
  • Half a lime

Directions:

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the frozen limeade concentrate and beer. Allow the foam to settle, then squeeze the lime half into the pitcher and stir. Pour into chilled glasses.
Enjoy!!!

I had a request for some ideas for a Chili Cook Off Party.  Growing up in Texas, I have seen a variety of chili cook off parties.

If you want to go with a traditional theme, decorate with a chili peppers theme.

String Chili Pepper Lights and use fun accessories like this snack tray from Hostess Jo.

Other fun themes or theme names could be:

The Hot Chi-hua-huas – decorate with colorful Mexican accents and serve chips in a sombrero

The Wickedest Chili of the West – decorate with a Wicked Witch or ideas from the Wizard of Oz

Texas Hotties – Use cowboy hats and baskets with bandanas

Doctored Up – Dress like doctors and nurses and use medical decorations
